The G20 Presidency determines future of energy transition

JAKARTA – The energy transition working group (ETWG) under the G20 Presidency forum will meet on March 24-25 in Yogyakarta, organisers said Monday (14/3) in a written release. The meeting will determine the future of energy transition including its access, technology and funding.

Expert Staff to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for Strategic Planning and Head of ETWG, Yudo Dwinanda Priadi explained that the main discussion in the topic of energy is to create affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all countries.

The topic of technology will discuss efforts to improve and use technology for clean industrial development, integration of new and renewable energy (NRE), and energy efficiency. In the topic of funding, the government will encourage developed countries to invest and finance various innovations to develop NRE.

“This presidency is very important for Indonesia as a global citizen who has an important role in supporting clean energy and the world’s climate,” said Priadi, adding that the government will also collect pledges made by developed countries to fund 100 billion USD in dealing with climate change.

In addition to these three topics, the meeting of the G20 energy transition working group will also discuss the energy transition pillars and the main design of the Road to Bali Communique.

Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif has said earlier that the pillars of the G20 energy transition will garner stronger global commitments to achieve clean energy.
