PLN records a 239 per cent increase in home charging services users

Jakarta – PT PLN (Persero) has recorded a surge in the utilisation of Home Charging Services (HCS), marking the acceleration of electric vehicle adoption in Indonesia. During the first half of 2025, a total of 20,053 new customers registered as HCS users, representing a 239 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, when only 8,358 customers were recorded, according to PLN, as of Wednesday, 23 July.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo called the sharp increase proof that people are increasingly convinced of the convenience and reliability of the electric vehicle ecosystem, including the need for charging that can be accessed directly from home. “We see the rapid growth of electric vehicles, and PLN is here to answer people’s needs for convenient, economical, and efficient charging solutions,” he said.

Not only in terms of the number of customers, the surge was also seen in electricity consumption for EVs. During January-June 2025, electricity use for charging electric cars through HCS reached 57,117 megawatt-hours (MWh), a 179 per cent increase from the same period the previous year, when only 31,880 MWh was used. PLN sees this trend as a positive signal.

“Home charging is an important foundation in driving the transition from fossil-fuelled vehicles to electricity. We want to make it easier for people at every stage of this transition,” Darmawan continued.

To support the acceleration of service adoption, PLN offers various incentives, including a 50 per cent discount on electricity connection fees for both new installations and power increases. This promotion is valid from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

PLN is also collaborating with 22 Single Agent Brand Holders (ATPM) of electric cars to increase service coverage. This collaboration makes it easier for consumers to obtain authorised home charger installation services when purchasing a new electric vehicle.

“We want to ensure that when someone buys an electric car, they can immediately enjoy the convenience of charging at home without the hassle of looking for SPKLU,” Darmawan added. Since its launch in 2021, a total of more than 51,000 customers have utilised PLN’s HCS service. (Hartatik)
