Jakarta – PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (IDX: PGEO) has reiterated its commitment to building a comprehensive geothermal ecosystem in Indonesia at the 11th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2025, held in Jakarta on September 17–19.
In a public disclosure report at the Jakarta Stock Exchange (IDX) website, on Thursday, September 18, PGEO President Director Julfi Hadi said the company is pursuing a “beyond electricity” strategy to capture new opportunities in green hydrogen and green ammonia, sectors projected to see rapid domestic growth by 2030. “Our analysis shows high commercial potential in the off-grid business, including green hydrogen and green ammonia,
whose domestic markets are predicted to grow significantly by 2030. This is an important opportunity for PGE to seize,” Julfi said.
The company aims to achieve 1 GW of installed capacity within the next 2–3 years and 1.7 GW by 2034, with identified geothermal potential reaching 3 GW across 10 operational areas. Projects underway include the 55 MW Lumut Balai Unit 2 plant, the Gunung Tiga exploration, and a pilot green hydrogen project in Ulubelu.
Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, who opened the convention, stressed that geothermal energy will increasingly serve industrial as well as household demand. Meanwhile, EBTKE Director General Eniya Listiani Dewi highlighted the government’s success in cutting permit approval times from 1.5 years to just 7 days.
With more than 40 years of experience, PGEO currently manages 727 MW across six operating areas and is expanding with projects such as Hululais Unit 1 & 2 (110 MW) and cogeneration ventures totalling 230 MW. (nsh)
