Jakarta – The government and PT PLN (Persero) noted that the provision of electricity for the people of Indonesia until the end of 2024, the Electrified Village Ratio (RDB) has reached 99.92 per cent, or as many as 83,693 villages across the country have now enjoyed electricity.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said this achievement is not just a statistical figure but a real reflection of the government’s efforts to create energy justice for all Indonesians.
“This is a concrete manifestation of the mandate given to PLN as a state-owned enterprise in the electricity sector. We continue to strive to ensure that electricity, as a basic need, can be enjoyed in remote areas of the country,” Darmawan said in his press statement Thursday, January 16.
Darmawan explained that of the 83,693 villages that are now electrified, 77,942 villages get electricity from PLN. Meanwhile, 3,127 other villages are electrified from non-PLN sources, including communities that use local technology. In addition, 2,624 villages utilise energy-efficient solar lamps (LTSHE) provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR).
“LTSHE provides a solution for areas difficult to reach by the PLN network, especially remote, outermost, and disadvantaged areas (3T). The presence of this electricity has brought great changes to the lives of the people there,” Darmawan added.
Infrastructure built
This achievement is inseparable from the massive development of electricity infrastructure throughout 2024. PLN successfully built a Medium Voltage Network of 4,438 circuit kilometres (kms), a Low Voltage Network of 3,625 kms, and added Distribution Substations with a total capacity of 94,545 kiloVolt Amperes (kVA).
These efforts have directly impacted 951 new villages that now have access to electricity, covering more than 103,249 households across Indonesia.
“Electricity illuminates and opens access to better education, health, and economic opportunities. We want to ensure that the presence of electricity really provides broad benefits to the community,” Darmawan said.
In addition to the achievement of RDB, PLN also encourages the achievement of the National Electrification Ratio, which, as of December 2024, has reached 99.83 per cent. The target is to reach 100 per cent soon, ensuring that all households in Indonesia have access to electricity.
“We are committed to making electricity a basic right that everyone can enjoy, without exception. This struggle is part of the nation’s great mission to build a brighter and more prosperous future,” Darmawan concluded. (Hartatik)
