Jakarta — Indonesia and the United Nations have launched a new five-year partnership to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aligning with the country’s medium- and long-term development plans, the UN Information Centre said on Wednesday, August 13.

The Indonesia–UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2026–2030, unveiled at the Bappenas–UN Forum 2025 in Jakarta, will focus on three priority areas: human development, nature and climate resilience, and economic and digital transformation. It will guide the work of 22 UN agencies in the country, with an emphasis on equitable access to social services, biodiversity protection, energy transition, inclusive economic growth, and green jobs.

National Development Planning Minister/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy highlighted the need for stronger coordination, local government capacity building, robust monitoring, and innovative financing. He said, “For the implementation of UNSDCF 2026-2030, we must strengthen coordination, build the capacity of local governments and implementing partners, enhance our monitoring and evaluation systems, and mobilise resources through innovative financing.”

“Today’s launch should be more than a milestone; it should become the catalyst for equitable and sustainable progress to every community across Indonesia”, said Arrmanatha Nasir, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs.

UN Resident Coordinator Gita Sabharwal said the framework aims to deliver “impacts at scale” by embedding efforts into national programmes, including new funding tools such as the Indonesia SDGs Accelerator Fund and provincial thematic bonds.

UN agencies are currently exploring new innovative financing for sustainable development, including the Indonesia SDGs Accelerator Fund and provincial thematic bonds. Developed through consultations with government, civil society, the private sector, and youth, these new mechanisms are aimed at mobilising capital to support local governments in designing and implementing development programs tailored to their specific needs, particularly in underserved regions.
