JAKARTA – Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo, in a written release Tuesday (8/3), said the impact of climate change is currently one of the threats to the agricultural sector and can lead to the decrease in productivity. According to the meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency (BMKG) forecast, we have entered drought in March to April 2022.
Facilitation for climate change impact assistance in 2022 would synergize with Horticultural Villages, the ministry’s program to encourage competitive and environmentally friendly horticultural production, especially in villages affected by drought.
This year, the Directorate General of Horticulture has allocated assistance to facilitate the impacts of climate change and natural disasters for an area of about 210 ha. This assistance facilitation can help farmers, especially in off season conditions and increase the cropping index, especially chili and shallots.
Director General of Horticulture Prihasto Setyanto said preventive measures will be taken by the Ministry of Agriculture to tackle climate change. Including by directing his staff to go out in the field, securing the availability of various chilies and shallots.
“We have prepared a budget for the allocation of assistance related to the impact of climate change in the form of water pumps, water-saving technology and water harvesting technology according to the needs of the local area,” Setyanto said. (Hartatik)
