Global energy efficiency action accelerates achievement of NZE targets

Jakarta – Collaboration between countries and international organizations can accelerate the achievement of the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target globally, officials said Friday (10/6). As one of the main strategies to reduce carbon emissions, energy efficiency is more easily realized together.

The Indonesian government is currently drafting regulations regarding the implementation of energy management, particularly the Government Regulation on Energy Conservation. While attending ‘A Closed Door Session – Ministerial Day’ as part of the 7th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency in Denmark, earlier this month, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif in a written release said, the regulation is still in the stage of harmonization.

“This regulation will cover energy consumers as well as the transportation and building sectors,” he said.

The government is also working to expand the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) as regulated in Indonesia’s National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), implementing energy-efficient technologies to equipment, such as electric vehicles, induction cookers, etc.

On that occasion, Arifin supported a joint statement for all members of the International Energy Agency (IEA) regarding important actions for energy efficiency. (Hartatik)
