Jakarta – Geothermal energy can be a reliable type of energy to meet the current and future needs for environmentally friendly energy, and meet the basic load of electricity supply, officials said Tuesday (17/5).
“It can be said that geothermal is a superior source of energy,” Chairman of the Indonesian Geothermal Association (API), Prijandaru Effendi said in a virtual press conference, The 8th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2022, adding that geothermal can produce more than 100 years.
He said, geothermal is recognised as an environmentally friendly clean energy source that is suitable as a sustainable base load. In the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), by 2030, geothermal capacity is targeted to increase by 3,355 megawatts (MW).
API, supported by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Directorate General of New Renewable Energy & Energy Conservation (EBTKE) will hold the 8th Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2022 on 14-16 September 2022 in Jakarta Convention Center. With the theme “Geothermal: The Sustainable Energy for Green Recovery, Energy Transition, and Security”, this event is in line with the current government policy to realise sustainable green energy.
“IIGCE 2022 will also be a side event in strengthening Indonesia’s commitment at the G20 Summit, one of the main focuses of which is the energy transition to ensure access to energy needs, technology that supports clean energy development and sustainable financial support,” Effendi said.
This event is also a forum for bringing together government agencies, policy makers, stakeholders, investors, service companies, academics, and experts to share the latest developments regarding the geothermal industry.
The Chief Executive of IIGCE 2022, Riza Pasikki, added that the theme raised in this convention also has relevance to global issues and current government policies to realise sustainable green energy. He said the event will discuss and share experiences in attractive policy frameworks for global issues, investment commitments from developers who need the support of funding agencies.
This event will also offer the opportunity to visit the Sokoria geothermal field, Ende, East Nusa Tenggara Province, operated by PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power as a complete exploratory trip to know and understand geothermal in detail, he said. (Hartatik)
