JAKARTA – The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), will release findings that several ecosystems have approached a critical point due to the impact of the climate crisis by the end of February 2022. In this regard, several youth communities consisting of Fossil Free (FF) Jogjakarta, University of Indonesia (UI) students association, Climate Rangers (CR) Jakarta and Pause for Climate held a ‘Fossil Free BNI’ action on Sunday (27/2).
The action was carried out around the BNI Jakarta building. Jeri Asmoro, 350.org Indonesia Digital Campaigner, said that BNI became the target of action, because it is considered as one of the top Indonesian banks that still funds coal companies, the main cause of the climate crisis.
“Even though the climate crisis has endangered the life of the earth and all its inhabitants,” said Jeri in a written release, Sunday (27/2).
Meanwhile, Ginanjar Aryasuta, an activist for Climate Rangers (CR) Jakarta, added that BNI must immediately stop funding to the fossil energy industry. According to him, an ecological disaster due to the climate crisis is in sight.
“Don’t let BNI, which has mostly young customers, destroy the future of its own customers through the fossil energy industry,” he added.
Furthermore, Ginanjar said scientifically that in order to maintain a decent living world below 1.5 degrees in accordance with the Paris Agreement, there should be no more new coal projects. However, as if they don’t understand science, Indonesia is actually increasing the production and utilization of coal which exacerbates the climate crisis situation.
“It is even more sad that we have our own money through state financial institutions. This is a form of betrayal of the state against the survival of all of us,” said Melissa Kowara, activist for the Pause for Climate.
Apart from BNI, there are 3 other national banks, namely Bank Mandiri, BRI and BCA, which were also criticized by the ‘Clean Bankmu’ coalition for still funding the coal energy sector as a producer of greenhouse gas emissions that caused various climate disasters to worsen. (Hartatik)

Krisis Iklim Makin Ancam Kehidupan Bumi, Anak Muda Desak BNI Stop Danai Batu Bara
JAKARTA – Laporan terbaru Panel Lintas Pemerintah untuk Perubahan Iklim atau IPCC, jika tidak ada penundaan, akan dirilis beberapa ekosistem yang telah mendekati titik kritis akibat dampak dari krisis iklim pada akhir Februari 2022. Sehubungan itu, beberapa komunitas anak muda yang terdiri dari Fossil Free (FF) Jogjakarta, UI, Climate Rangers (CR) Jakarta, BEM UI, BEM FIA UI, dan ‘Jeda Untuk Iklim’ menggelar aksi ‘Fossil Free BNI’ pada Minggu (27/2).
Aksi dilakukan di sekitar gedung BNI Jakarta. Jeri Asmoro, Indonesia Digital Campaigner 350.org, mengatakan, BNI menjadi sasaran aksi, karena dinilai menjadi salah satu bank papan atas Indonesia yang masih mendanai perusahaan batubara, penyebab krisis iklim.
“Padahal Krisis iklim telah membahayakan kehidupan bumi dan seluruh penghuninya,” ujar Jeri melalui rilis tertulis, Minggu (27/2).
Sementara itu, Ginanjar Aryasuta, aktivis Climate Rangers (CR) Jakarta menambahkan, BNI harus segera menghentikan pendanaan ke industri energi fosil. Menurutnya, bencana ekologi akibat krisis iklim sudah di depan mata.
“Jangan sampai BNI yang memiliki nasabah sebagian besar anak muda malah menghancurkan masa depan nasabahnya sendiri melalui industri energi fosil,” imbuhnya.
Lebiih lanjut, Ginanjar menyampaikan, secara sains bahwa untuk mempertahankan dunia layak hidup dibawah 1,5 derajat sesuai dengan Perjanjian Paris, tidak boleh ada lagi proyek batubara baru. Akan tetapi seperti tidak mengerti sains, Indonesia malah meningkatkan produksi dan pemanfaatan batubara yang memperburuk situasi krisis iklim.
“Lebih mirisnya dengan uang kita sendiri melalui lembaga keuangan negara. Ini adalah bentuk pengkhianatan negara terhadap kelangsungan hidup kita semua,” kata Melissa Kowara, aktivis Jeda Untuk Iklim.
Sebagai tambahan informasi, selain BNI ada 3 bank nasional lainnya yakni Mandiri, BRI dan BCA yang juga dikritik oleh koalisi Bersihkan Bankmu karena masih mendanai sektor energi batubara sebagai penghasil emisi gas rumah kaca yang menyebabkan berbagai bencana iklim semakin memburuk. (Hartatik)
