Bukit Asam expands NRE business and technology

Jakarta – PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the Mining BUMN holding MIND ID, is now focusing on developing environmentally friendly energy technology and new renewable energy (NRE). The company’s business expansions include the Sumsel-8 mine mouth power plant (PLTU Sumsel 8), or located nearby the coal mine and reducing logistical costs, with an installed capacity of 2×620 MW with a value of USD 1.68 billion, company officials said Monday (23/5).

PT Bukit Asam Tbk Corporate Secretary Apollonius Andwie said this coal power plant is part of the 35,000 MW national strategic project and was built by PTBA through PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (PT HBAP) as an Independent Power Producer (IPP).

PT HBAP is a consortium between PTBA and China Huadian Hongkong Company Ltd. Progress of construction of the coal power plant project development has almost reached its completion and is expected to be fully operational in 2022. The plant will require 5.4 million tons of coal per year.

PTBA also collaborates with other state-owned companies including PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) to build solar power generation at Soekarno Hatta Airport; and PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk to build solar power generation in toll roads, such as the project in Bali Mandara toll road with an installed capacity of 400 kilowatt peak (kWp). PTBA will also develop solar power plants in post-mining land areas. (Hartatik)
