Antam requests 150 MVA of renewable energy from PLN

Jakarta – PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) Tbk signed a memorandum of understanding with PLN to supply electricity to the Pomalaa Ferronickel Plant in Southeast Sulawesi, which uses new and renewable energy (EBT) power plants, company officials said Friday (10/6).

Antam Director of Operations and Production Dewa Wirantaya said in a written release, that the signing of the memorandum of understanding was carried out on June 3, 2022 and agreed to supply 150 MVA of electricity. This step is part of efforts to meet the target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the government to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

According to Wirantaya, the supply of electricity to the three ferronickel plant lines from the PLN network is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 50 percent. In addition, the use of B30 fuel for mining operational vehicles, the use of solar panels for mining lighting in several business units, as well as replacing fuel in nickel ore processing activities from marine fuel oil to dual fuel which will be able to reduce emissions in the ferronickel production process.

The company also strives to apply appropriate and environmentally friendly technology to reduce energy consumption, as well as implement a monitoring and evaluation system regularly conducted by energy managers and energy auditors certified by the National Professional Certification Agency to assist the energy efficiency process.
