Pertamina Patra Niaga launches UCO Green Movement pilot project

Jakarta – Pertamina Patra Niaga launched the Green Movement UCO program at Istora Senayan Saturday, December 21. This used cooking oil utilisation program collaborates with UCOllect, a green technology company that focuses on used cooking oil management.

President Director of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan, expressed the importance of the community’s role in this program. “We want to change the paradigm. Used cooking oil is no longer wasted but an opportunity to support the development of environmentally friendly biofuels,” he said.

“UCO’s Green Movement is a pilot project that will run for one year. We will continue to evaluate this program to expand its reach to other areas,” Riva explained.

Through the MyPertamina application, people can find out the location of the UCollect Box at gas stations, Pertamina IHC hospitals, and CSR partners in Jabodetabek and Bandung. Participating people can get an incentive through an e-wallet balance of Rp 6,000 per litre of used cooking oil deposited. There are also additional e-vouchers and MyPertamina points for participants who deposit used cooking oil during a certain period.

Pertamina Patra Niaga utilises used cooking oil as one of the raw materials for making sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). Pertamina International Refinery developed these products to support the reduction of carbon emissions in the aviation sector by up to 84%.

“This potential comes not only from households but also the culinary industry that produces large amounts of used cooking oil. With the support of Pertamina’s extensive network, we believe this program can be an important milestone in the energy transition,” Riva added.

Riva hopes that this program can educate the community while creating a real impact on the environment. “We want people to be more aware that small contributions, such as recycling used cooking oil, can bring big changes,” she said. (Hartatik)
