Yogyakarta – Pertamina Power & New Renewable Energy (NRE) Subholding, operated by PT Pertamina Power Indonesia, or also known as Pertamina NRE targets the installation of solar panels for solar power plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) until 2030. From that target, Pertamina RNE is optimistic that it can be realized 220 MW this year, officials said Thursday (24/3).

“Fossil energy can be substituted with many alternative energy sources, including solar energy. Solar energy (PLTS) is cheap, clean and reliable in the long term. These assets can last up to 20 years,” said Chief Executive Office of Pertamina NRE, Dannif Danusaputro during the inauguration of the PLTS Village Economic Center (Balkondes) Karangrejo in Magelang Regency, Central Java.

Pertamina NRE implements Pertamina’s strategic agenda to achieve the new renewable energy mix (NRE) target of 31 percent by 2030. These steps are strengthened by the presence of global support voiced in the Task Force Energy, Sustainable and Climate B20 in a series of meetings and actions to voice the aspirations of various segments including industry players.

“Pertamina is determined to accelerate all green energy transition programs, especially the eight initiatives that have been carried out from upstream to downstream,” added Danusaputro, adding that Pertamina will continue to carry out strategic initiatives, such as realizing the clean energy development target of 10 gigawatts (GW) until 2026.

Other Pertamina NRE initiatives include developing carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) projects such as in the Sukowati and Gundih Fields; continuing clean energy development mechanism geothermal operations; developing green energy stations (GES) concept or gas stations with green concept.

Solar power as a source of electrical energy will dominate a more environmentally friendly fuel that will be increasingly digital. So the company plans to install solar panels with a total capacity of 500 MW until 2030 for use of internal resources in all Pertamina Group operational areas.

Pertamina, Danusaputro said, continues to ensure that they will be at the forefront of supporting government policies that target emission reductions of 29% by 2030. In the energy sector, the government targets to reduce emissions by 314 million tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) by 2030. To be able to provide significant results in mitigating climate change, with the current business pattern, the global oil and gas sector must reduce emissions of at least 3.5 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e) per year by 2050.

“This step is in line with the theme of this year’s G20 presidency, that is ‘recover together, recover stronger’ with the main priority issues that require collective action globally, such as the global health architecture, sustainable energy transition, as well as digital and economic transformation,” he concluded.

Present at the event were the Director General of Pollution Control and Environmental Damage at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Sigit Relianto and delegates from G20 countries. This activity is part of an event series of the Environment Deputies Meeting and Climate Sustainability Working Group or EDM-CSWG G20. (Hartatik)
