JAKARTA – Pertamina targets to reduce portion of fuel and LPG use to 64 percent and increase the share of gas use to 19 percent and renewable energy to 17 percent of the company’s total energy mix in 2030, company officials said Friday (11/3).
Pertamina is preparing a roadmap for transitional energy through the company’s long-term plan (RJPP) 2020-2024. This is related to Pertamina’s target of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 29 percent by 2030.
Pertamina Senior Vice President Research & Technology Innovation, Oki Muraza said in the Special Dialogue: Accelerating Energy Transition in the Realization of a Green Economy that “Pertamina has also collaborated with international companies, such as ExxonMobil to reduce CO2 emissions”.
The collaboration includes development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technologies. This technology is also part of the company’s efforts to boost oil production through Enhance Oil and Gas Recovery technology in Pertamina’s wells.
Pertamina also conducts public education to encourage the use of environmentally friendly fuel oil. One of the biggest contributors to emissions comes from gasoline motor vehicles. In addition, Pertamina’s business is also directed to continue implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects.
“We made a number of strategic initiatives. These include increasing geothermal capacity as green electricity in Indonesia and developing green hydrogen,” added Muraza.
In addition, Pertamina will also take a strategic role in the production and development of the battery ecosystem in Indonesia. Furthermore, Pertamina also boosts their refinery specifications to produce environmentally friendly fuel.
“From here we strive to ensure the achievement of a green energy mix, assist an integrated oil and gas supply chain and actively build a portfolio of NRE using domestic resources,” he said. (Hartatik)
