Jakarta – PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) said it plans to expand its business into strategic projects that support the national energy transition, according to a Pertagas spokesperson in an official statement on Monday, 26 May.
In its Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) for the fiscal year 2024 held on 22 May 2025, Pertagas affirmed its commitment to strengthening national energy security by expanding its business focus to the new and renewable energy (NRE) sector.
Pertagas President Director Gamal Imam Santoso emphasised that this business expansion is the company’s long-term strategy to support national energy sustainability. “This aligns with our vision to become a world-class energy infrastructure company. We not only build pipelines, but also support energy transition and decarbonisation,” Gamal said.
Throughout 2024, Pertagas is implementing several major projects that strengthen its strategic role in the national energy supply chain. In the petroleum sector, the company began preparations for constructing the Cikampek-Plumpang Fuel Pipeline with Pertamina Patra Niaga, which will accelerate fuel distribution to the Greater Jakarta area.
The installation of the Batang HO Booster Pump and KBJ SLC Booster Pump was also completed as part of the Rokan Pipeline Project, which supports the transportation of oil from the Rokan Working Area – one of the largest oil production blocks in Indonesia.
In the natural gas sector, Pertagas completed the Senipah-Balikpapan pipeline, an important project that supports the operational efficiency of Pertamina’s Balikpapan Refinery.
Business development into clean energy and low-carbon technology
Pertagas is now exploring opportunities to develop renewable energy and low-emission technology in the oil and gas sector. Together with PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), the company is conducting an initial study of geothermal energy development.
Meanwhile, collaboration with Pertamina EP Cepu (PEPC) focuses on developing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technologies, as part of the national decarbonisation strategy.
Regarding operations, gas transportation volume reached 560,523 MMSCF, while oil transportation recorded 58,990 MBOE. Gas trading volume reached 31,898 BBTU, gas processing 163,730 tonnes, and LNG regasification 53,341 BBTU throughout 2024.
Pertagas also recorded an impressive financial performance. The company’s revenue rose from USD793 million (around Rp13.1 trillion) in 2023 to USD843.45 million (around Rp13.9 trillion) in 2024. Net profit increased significantly, from USD196.7 million to USD222.4 million (around Rp3.7 trillion).
The main driver of this growth was business diversification, which includes gas trading, regasification, LPG processing, and now expansion into renewable energy.
Throughout 2024, Pertagas won 116 awards, including three Gold PROPERs, one Green PROPER, and one Blue PROPER from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). This demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the implementation of corporate social responsibility.
Internal performance also showed positive results, with the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) achieving 112 per cent, exceeding the maximum target of 110 per cent.
“This is clear evidence of Pertagas’ commitment to realising national energy self-sufficiency through reliable, efficient and sustainable energy infrastructure management,” said Gamal. (Hartatik)
