Jakarta – The Indonesian government is serious about increasing access to sustainable global energy, officials said Friday (29/4). To achieve this goal, three main principles are highlighted, namely, adequate electricity supply, quality of electricity supply received, and affordable electricity prices.

“Energy access in Indonesia can be reflected in the achievement of the electrification ratio. Until 2021, Indonesia’s electrification ratio has reached 99.45 percent, while the ratio of electrified villages is at the level of 99.62 percent,” said Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Director General of Electricity Rida Mulyana in the virtual event G20 Webinar Series: Achieving Global Energy Access Goals in the Decade of Action.

The government targets electricity supply throughout Indonesia to reach 100 percent by the end of 2022. In addition to the electrification ratio, the government has set a new and renewable energy (NRE) mix target of 23 percent by 2025.

Mulyana explained, until the end of 2021, realization of NRE achievements had reached 14 percent in the power plant energy mix. The clean energy transition is projected to be fully decarbonised by 2060 or sooner. “Several policies have been implemented by the government, including no additional coal-based power plants except those that are already contracted or under construction,” he said, adding that by 2030, there will be an additional 21 GigaWatts (GW) of additional renewable energy generation.

“From that target, we already achieved 11.1 GW of electricity,” Mulyana said. (Hartatik)
