Jakarta – Starting January 1, 2024, only registered users can purchase 3kg LPG cylinders. The Indonesian government imposed new rules regarding purchasing 3kg LPG so that the distribution of subsidised LPG is on target.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Director General of Oil and Gas, Tutuka Ariadji, explained that the distribution of 3kg LPG needs to be done right on target following Presidential Regulation No. 71/2015. “This type of gas cylinder is an essential item and has certain target users, including households, micro-businesses, fishermen, and farmers,” he said.
Before making a transaction, users of 3kg LPG must register at authorised sub-distributors or bases by presenting their identity card (KTP) and family card (KK), according to Ariadji.
In addition to the convenience of the registration process, Ariadji guarantees the security of consumers’ personal data. According to him, the government and the assigned business entity (PT Pertamina) guarantee that 3kg of LPG consumer data on Pertamina’s merchant app will be protected under Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection.
Around 31.5 million 3kg LPG users have transacted through Pertamina’s merchant app at authorised sub-distributors/bases. This data collection of 3kg LPG users is the initial stage of subsidy transformation, implemented from March 1 to December 31, 2023.
Pertamina is again entrusted by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to supply and distribute 3kg LPG refills in 2024.
President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan, emphasised the company’s readiness to perform the assignment of transforming the distribution of subsidised 3kg-canister LPG following applicable regulations. Merchant Apps (MAP) infrastructure has been prepared to record subsidised 3kg LPG transactions in more than 253 thousand bases/sub-distributors in 411 cities and districts in Indonesia, which have been converted to LPG.
