Power wheeling still dominates the Renewables Bill discussion

Jakarta – The discussion of the New Renewable Energy Bill (EBET Bill) by Commission VII of the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) continues.

One of the main issues that has not been resolved is the power wheeling scheme, or the process of flowing electricity from one place to another through different transmission networks, allowing private production electricity to be channeled through the State Electricity Company (PLN) network.

“It is still in process and next week there will be a continuation of the Working Committee on the EBET Bill,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI, Eddy Soeparno, in an official statement on Wednesday, June 19.

He explained that although discussions regarding the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) had found a bright spot, power wheeling still needed further resolution. “TKDN in principle is okay. Power wheeling will be finalized,” Soeparno said.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Director General of Electricity, Jisman Hutajulu, the total potential of renewable energy in Indonesia reaches 3.6 terawatts (TW), with the largest potential coming from solar power plants (PLTS) amounting to 3.3 TW.

“The power wheeling scheme is very important to utilize this potential,” he explained.
The discussion of the EBET Bill will continue on Monday, 24 June, with the hope that these two main issues can be resolved immediately to support the development of renewable energy in Indonesia. (Hartatik)
