LPEM FEB UI launches white paper, recommends geothermal energy sector policies

Jakarta – The Institute for Economic and Social Research of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI) issued a series of policy recommendations to accelerate the growth of the geothermal energy sector in Indonesia in a white paper entitled “Business and Policy Analysis to Encourage Investment in Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP) in Indonesia.”

Deputy Head of LPEM FEB UI for Education and Training, Mohamad Dian Revindo, emphasised that this white paper results from an in-depth evaluation of the current conditions in the geothermal energy business.

“We are committed to providing an objective view to support stakeholders in making informed policies,” he said at the launch of the white paper at the UI Campus, Depok.

According to Revindo, the book not only examines the technical, regulatory and financial aspects vital to the development of the geothermal business but also offers concrete solutions to strengthen the investment ecosystem in the sector.

Head of the Green Economy and Climate Research Group, LPEM FEB UI, Alin Halimatussadiah, explained that the white paper provides policy recommendations to increase investment in geothermal power plants.

“We focus on identifying effective pricing and contracting strategies for geothermal energy power plant projects, as well as conditions that can encourage geothermal investment,” she explained.

Meanwhile, a positive response came from the Director of Geothermal, Directorate General of EBTKE, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Harris Yahya. According to him, this initiative aligns with the government’s vision to strengthen the geothermal energy sector as an integral part of the national energy portfolio.

“We invite all parties concerned with sustainable energy development to study the study conducted by LPEM FEB UI,” Yahya said, adding that the government’s commitment to work with all stakeholders to achieve Indonesia’s strategic targets of geothermal energy sector development.

Thus, the white paper is expected to be a source of knowledge for practitioners, academics, and policymakers and an instrument that can accelerate investment and growth in the geothermal energy sector in Indonesia. (Hartatik)
